The Golden Acre Blueprint: Why We Are Digging Up the Dirt in Oak Creek
Every good harvest starts with a blueprint—or in our case, a prayer, a patch of dirt, and a couple of dogs.
Welcome to the very first official entry of the Golden Acre Homestead journal. Whether you are listening to Golden Acre Radio, watching our videos, or reading this from your living room in Oak Creek, we are thrilled you are here.
Before we start building chicken coops, planting raised beds, or firing up the John Deere for winter snow removal, we want to take a step back. We want to share the "why" behind the homestead, and the core values that drive everything we do.
From Silicon to Soil
For years, our founder, Dave, spent his days deep in the corporate tech world—a world built on silicon, screens, and digital efficiency. But in an increasingly virtual world, we recognized a growing hunger for something tangible. People are craving real connection, real food, and real community.
That realization sparked the transition from Silicon to Soil. Golden Acre Homestead was born out of a desire to step away from the screens, get our hands dirty, and build something that physically serves our neighbors.
Our Mission
At Golden Acre, our mission is simple but deeply rooted: We exist to cultivate community resilience through sustainable agriculture, charitable service, and education. We aren't just here to grow heirloom tomatoes or restore native prairies, though we love doing both. We are here to physically lift the burdens of our most vulnerable neighbors. Whether that means growing fresh produce for families facing food insecurity, running our SafePath snow removal program for the elderly, or repairing furniture in our woodshop, the goal is always the same: carry each other’s burdens.
The Core Values: Grit, Dirt, and Joy
To make this mission a reality, we operate on three distinct core values:
Grit: Building a 100% volunteer-run non-profit from the ground up is not easy. It takes late nights, early mornings, and a whole lot of heavy lifting. Grit is our commitment to doing the hard work, even when it is uncomfortable.
Dirt: We believe in the healing power of creation. Dirt represents our commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainable practices, and the tangible, physical reality of working the land.
Joy: This is where our Chief Morale Officer, Goldie, comes in! Service should never be a chore. We embrace the "Golden Retriever energy" of the homestead, finding immense joy, humor, and gratitude in every single project.
The Vision (One Acre Under God)
Our ultimate vision is to build a hyper-local model of neighborhood resilience. We want to see a community where gates are open, neighbors know each other by name, and no one has to face the heavy seasons of life isolated or alone.
We are just getting started, and we have a lot of dirt to move. We need pioneers, builders, and believers to help us turn this blueprint into a reality.
